History
In 2009, our sister organization, Living Waters for the World, worked with the leadership of the Synod of the Sun, a regional governing body in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) They thought a new ministry of solar power systems to pair with water treatment systems would be a natural fit for our Synod, which includes all the PC(USA) congregations in Arkansas, Louisiana, Texas, and Oklahoma. The Synod leadership jumped at the chance, and quickly found Presbyterians and other Christians to come together to start Solar Under the Sun. Chris McRae, our Executive Director and an instructor with Living Water for the World’s Clean Water U, worked with many talented people to form a committee to develop this outreach. As a result, Solar under the Sun's first training session began in May of 2010.
The picture you see on the right is our first Solar under the Sun install at Arcahaie, Haiti in July of 2009. Our trainees have since installed 14 more systems!

Our May 2011 Solar training marks the end of our first year of instruction. SUTS has trained 90 students who are ready for the mission field. Thirty six instructors and students have already been on missions and many more trips are in the planning stage. In addition to Haiti, we have trainees planning installations in Kenya, Peru and the Ukraine. SUTS has trained students from 17 states and two international partners in Haiti and Kenya. See pictures of our first four classes here.
